BC Players take home gold medals in individual and team competition...

The wind blew at Brudenell River Golf Course for the second day in a row.  BC takes the gold medal for both team competitions.  The field was cut to the low 15 competitors in each division.

Women

  • British Columbia (team members: Sue Kim, SooBin Kim and Christine Wong) captured the women’s gold for the inaugural golf team competition today at the Canada Games.  Their combined 3-day total was an even par 432, 12 shots better than second place Ontario with a score of 444 (+12).
  • Sue Kim of British Columbia had yet another terrific performance today at the Canada Games.  She shot a 2-under par 70 and now sits 8 shots ahead of BC teammate Christine Wong going into individual play tomorrow.  They will play together in the final pairing of the day. Soo Bin Kim sits in third at 7-over 223.

Men

  • On the men’s side, Team BC made it a clean sweep, beating Team Quebec by 5 shots.  British Columbia team members Eugene Wong, Justin Shin and Jared Hundza kept their round two momentum going and finished with a combined 3-day total of 429 (-3).
  • The round of the day on the men’s side went to BC native Justin Shin who carded the only under par round at 71 (-1).  He sits atop the leaderboard at -4, 3 shots ahead of Raoul Menard of Quebec.

What to look for tomorrow:

  • Now that the team competition is complete – all eyes will be on the individual play at Brudenell tomorrow.  On the male side – it looks like it will be a close battle for the gold medal between Justin Shin, Raoul Menard and Eugene Wong – all within 6 shots of the lead. The girls will have to catch round 3 leader Sue Kim who has a cushy 8 shot lead.

TEAM BC SET TO COMPETE AT THE CANADA SUMMER GAMES

Team BC will be competing in the Canada Summer Games at the Brudenell River Golf Course in Prince Edward Island, Tuesday August 25th to Friday August 28th. For the first time in Canada Games history, golf is a participating sport in the Canada Summer Games.

This is a tremendous development for golf and for young golfers right across the country who may now earn the chance to participate in the Canada Games.

The BC Golf Association has been training a group of young men and women in preparation for the Games with a focus on physical fitness & strength training, mental game training, dietary consultation and coaching to prepare them for this experience of a lifetime.

The following players are representing British Columbia:
