BOISE, IDAHO. (May 8, 2009) - The British Columbia Golf Association held strong in the singles matches today and claimed their first PNGA Cup at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho.
The BCGA scored 10 points out of a possible twelve yesterday in the four-ball and foursome matches and entered the final day with a four point lead over the Oregon Golf Association. In the twelve singles matches today, the BCGA won six of the matches and halved two to build their lead and finish at the top with a total of 17 points. The OGA finished in second place with 11½ points while the defending champions, WSGA finished in third with 11 points and the IGA finished in fourth with 8½ points.

Notable BCGA wins today came from Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C. who won by a 7&6 margin, Norm Bradley of Kelowna, B.C. who won 6&5, Brian Toth of Victoria, B.C., 3&2, Sandy Harper of Nanaimo, B.C., 1up, Christina Spence Proteau, Port Alberni, B.C., 2&1, and Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C., 2&1.
The Ryder-cup style contest features some of the most notable amateur golfers in the region with 12-member teams representing the regional golf associations that makeup the Pacific Northwest Golf Association including British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Each team has of eight men and four women with the men's contingent comprised of four mid-amateurs (25 years of age or older), two men at 40 years or older, and two senior men of 55 years or older. The women's delegation includes two mid-amateurs and two women 50 years of age or older.
The Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) is a 501(c) 3 charitable, international amateur golf association dedicated to preserving the true spirit of the game of golf and promoting activities beneficial to golfers in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. Over the past 110 years, the Association has been a pioneer in developing competitions and services to its members. Today, the PNGA remains committed to being a truly "regional" organization providing benefits and services to its members and member clubs throughout the Northwest. The PNGA territory is broken down into five zones, which are: Zone 1 - Oregon; Zone 2 - Eastern Washington; Zone 3 - Western Washington and Alaska; Zone 4 - British Columbia and Alberta; and Zone 5 - Idaho and Montana. There are approximately 220,000 individuals at over 720 PNGA member golf clubs.

BC takes commanding lead after first day at PNGA Cup Matches
BOISE, Idaho Thursday May 7, 2009 afternoon -- British Columbia continued the strong play through the afternoon foursome matches at the 4th annual PNGA Cup Matches at Crane Creek Golf and Country Club in Boise Idaho.
After Day 1 BC has a commanding lead with 10 points while Oregon is second with 6 points. Washington State has 4.5 points and Idaho has 3.5 points.
Mike Mannion and Norm Bradley continued their strong play this afternoon with a solid 5 & 4 victory over their opponents from Oregon. Craig Doell and Sandy Harper won their afternoon match against Oregon 3 & 2 while Ken Thompson and Brian Alexander rebounded from their morning halve to post a 3 and 1 victory over Idaho.
Bryan Toth and Ben Griffin rallied from 4 down after the front nine to post a 2 and 1 victory over Washington State. Jackie Little made a dramatic 15 foot putt on 18 to win their match over Washington 1 up while Christina Spence and Kim Evans suffered the only defeat of the day falling 3 and 2 to Oregon.
BOISE, Idaho Thursday May 7, 2009 morning--British Columbia opened a commanding lead after the morning four ball matches at the 4th annual PNGA Cup Matches.
Paced by Jackie Little and Alison Murdoch the BCGA team won an impressive 5 out 6 possible points in the morning fourball. Little and Murdoch won their match against the Idaho Team 8&7 and was the first match reported despite having the latest starting time. In quick succession Kim Evans and Christina Proteau reported in with a convincing 6&5 victory over their Oregon opponents and Norm Bradley and Mike Mannion reported a 3&2 victory over Idaho. Bryan Toth and Ben Griffin defeated their opponents from Washington State 4&3 while Sandy Harper/ Craig Doell and Brian Alexander/Ken Thompson halved their matches against teams from Oregon.
The second round of afternoon foursome matches teed off at 1:30 PM at the Crane Creek Country Club in Boise Idaho. Weather conditions are cool with gusting winds but little or no rain.
After the morning round the BCGA has 5 points, Oregon 3.5 points, Washington State 2.5 points and Idaho has 1 point.
BCGA to compete at PNGA Cup Matches
BOISE, Idaho. -- A twelve person team representing the British Columbia Golf Association (BCGA) will tee off tomorrow at the Fourth Annual PNGA Cup to be held at Crane Creek Country Club in Boise, Idaho May 6-8, 2009.
The PNGA Cup was inaugurated in 2006 as a way to foster friendship and bring together the allied golf associations from the Northwest. This Ryder-Cup style championship features some of the most notable amateur golfers in the region with 12-member teams representing the regional golf associations that makeup the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, which includes the British Columbia Golf Association, Idaho Golf Association, Oregon Golf Association, and the Washington State Golf Association.
Each association will collectively play 24 matches (men and women), which will include four-ball matches, foursome matches, and singles matches. One point is awarded for each match won and a half point is awarded for every match that ends all square (tied). The association with the most points at the conclusion of the PNGA Cup Matches will be declared the champion. With both Men's and Women's scores used to determine the team result, it is the only known event of its kind in the country.
