Canada Summer Games

The Canada Summer Games were first contested in 1969 and are held once every four years. Much like the Olympics, Canadian cities place a bid to host the Canada Summer Games. The Canada Games is a multi-sport and cultural event that brings together the best athletes and artists in a specified age group from each Canadian province and territory. The primary objective of the Games and the Games movement is national and provincial sport development of Canadian youth. In 2009 the sport of golf will be included in the Canada Summer Games for the first time.
The Canada Summer Games will be held August 15-29, 2009 in Prince Edward Island. The golf tournament will take place in the second week of the Canada Games at Brudenell River Golf Course on August 24-28. Ontario will be sending a team of 6 golfers – 3 males and 3 females - all of whom are 18 years or younger as of August 29, 2009. There will be both an individual championship and team championship component in the Canada Summer Games. The format will be a 72 stroke play format for the individual competition and the first 54 holes will also count towards the team championship for the team event with the best 2 out of 3 scores counting for the team score each day.
