Golf Vancouver Island

Most BC residents are familiar with Vancouver Island - Victoria's heritage and harbour, the outdoor activites and of course, the beaches at Tofino.  However, golf is now an important part of the tourism industry on the Island.   The diverse settings of the Island mean that you can play ocean-side, forested, parkland or mountain courses, all within about a 4 hour drive of Victoria. 

Victoria is the gateway to the Island, with its international airport and ferry connections from Vancouver and Seattle.  Victoria is well known for its intimate charm and visitors love the heritage buildings surrounding its Inner Harbor.  Three courses lie within an hour of downtown Victoria – Bear Mountain, Olympic View and Arbutus Ridge.  Bear Mountain is Canada's only resort with two Jack Nicklaus courses when the Valley Course opened in June 2009, joining the Mountain Course.  The Valley Course will be hosting the 2010 Skins Game.

The Cowichan Valley is BC’s newest wine region, about 1 hour north of Victoria.  With its temperate climate sunny hillsides, its also home to two courses – Duncan Meadows and Cowichan.

The Parksville and Qualicum Beach region is one of BC’s best known resort regions, with its fabulous sandy beaches.  The region is about ½ hour north of Nanaimo, another entry point to Vancouver Island (and about 2 ½  hours north of Victoria) by ferry.  The region boasts 3 courses – Fairwinds, Morningstar and Pheasant Glen.

Courtenay and Campbell River lie about 3 ½ hours north of Victoria, but are an easy drive along the new Island Highway.  The region is perhaps best known for its fishing, but two courses – the beautiful Crown Isle Resort and Storey Creek Golf Course provide ample distraction for the golfer. 

The Vancouver Island Golf Trail includes 10 courses laid out like a string of pearls each offering the discerning golfer something unique. The Trail offers BC golfers a range of course options, and can be combined with other outdoor activities, including its world-reknowned fishing.
