MATTHEW HAMILTON AND SOO BIN KIM WIN JUVENILE CROWNS

WESTBANK, B.C. (August 21, 2008) – Matthew Hamilton of West Vancouver and 2008 Canadian Junior Girls’ champion Soo Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam claimed the titles in the BC Boys’ and Girls’ Juvenile championships at Shannon Lake Golf Course in Westbank, B.C.

Hamilton, who held fast to the top of the leaderboard for all three days of tournament play, carded a final round 5-over par 75 to finish at 4-over 214. Kevin Kwon of Coquitlam played steady for second place at 6-over 216 while two-day co-leader Scott McCormac of Campbell River slid to third at 8-over 218. Justin Fram of Kelowna rounds out the top four at 9-over 219.

In Juvenile Girls’ championship play, Kim maintained the top position with a final 9-over 222 followed by 2008 Girls Junior Americas Cup individual champion Christine Wong of Richmond at 13-over 226. Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam finished in third at 21-over 234 and Valentina Trillo of Port Moody held on for fourth at 24-over 237.

As part of the BC Golf Association's Long Term Player Development Model, Soo Bin Kim and Christine Wong will attend the Canada Games Training Camp next week in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Golf will be included for the first time ever at the 2009 Summer Games and the competition is considered to be one of the most competitive in the country.

HAMILTON AND MCCORMAC HOLD ONTO TO LEAD AT BC JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIP

-Soo Bin Kim moves to first in Juvenile Girls’-

WESTBANK, B.C. (August 20, 2008) – Opening-round leaders, Matthew Hamilton of West Vancouver and Scott McCormac of Campbell River finished another day of matching scores at 1-over par 71 to sit tied for first at 1-under 139 heading into the final round at the 2008 BC Juvenile Boys’ Championship at Shannon Lake Golf Course in Westbank, B.C.

Cody Bell of Salmon Arm remains in third at 3-over 143 followed by Lee Campbell of Kelowna and Michael Belle of Burnaby at 4-over 144 for a tie at fourth.

In Juvenile Girls’ championship play, Soo Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam made a move to sit in the top spot on the leaderboard at 7-over 149 while Anica Yoo, also of Port Coquitlam is in second at 10-over 152.

Opening-round leader, Christine Wong of Richmond slipped to third at 12-over 154 and Valentina Trillo of Port Moody is in fourth at 14-over 156.

The Zone Team Championship was claimed today by Zone 2 players Ben Froese of Kamloops, Cody Bell of Salmon Arm and Colin Hasick and Jordan Oelrich of Kelowna. Cameron Chorney and Jared Hundza of Gorge Vale Golf Club were declared the winners of the Club Team Championship. At present time there field for the Juvenile Girls’ is not large enough to hold club or zone team competitions.

Following the completion of the second round, a 36-hole cut was made with the low score and ties continuing to compete for the title which wraps up Thursday. In all 58 players in the boys’ championship made the cut at 21-over or better. The present size of the Juvenile Girls Championship is too small to warrant a cut.

The final round commences Thursday August 21, 2008 at 7:00 AM off the first tee.

PAIR OF 68’s TAKE OPENING-ROUND LEAD AT BC JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTBANK, B.C. (August 19, 2008) – Matthew Hamilton of West Vancouver and Scott McCormac of Campbell River shot matching two-under par 68’s to share the opening round lead at the 2008 BC Juvenile Boys’ Championship at Shannon Lake Golf Course in Westbank, B.C.

Cody bell of Salmon Arm sits two strokes back for even while Kevin Lee and Sam MacDonald both of Surrey are tied for fourth at one-over heading into Wednesday’s second round.

In Juvenile Girls’ championship play, sisters Christine and Stephanie Wong each carded an opening-round five-over par 76 for a tie at first. Newly-crowned Canadian Junior Girls’ champion, Soo-Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam is tied with Anica Yoo also of Port Coquitlam for third at six-over par 77.

The BC Juvenile Boys’ Championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition. There will be a cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.

BC JUVENILE GIRLS AND BOYS CHAMPIONSHIPS SET FOR SHANNON LAKE GOLF COURSE

WESTBANK, B.C. (August 18, 2008) – British Columbia’s top juvenile golfers are set for three days of competition when they gather this week at Shannon Lake Golf Course in Westbank, B.C. from August 19-21 for the BC Juvenile Boys’ and Girls’ Championships.

Leading the hunt for the girls’ title will be the newly-crowned Canadian Junior Girls champion and second-place finisher at the 2008 BC Junior Girls Championship, Soo-Bin Kim of Port Coquitlam, B.C. Also heating up the leaderboard, watch for Christine Wong of Richmond, B.C. who is on a roll after claiming the Junior Girls’ Americas Cup individual title as the first Canadian ever.

Last year’s fourth-place finisher, Jared Hundza of Victoria, B.C. is looking for a win coming off a strong third-place finish at the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship earlier this month. Matthew Cavelti of West Vancouver, B.C. is also a contender after making a run up the leaderboard at the 2008 BC Amateur Championship to claim fourth and a spot on the Willingdon Cup team.

The BC Juvenile Championship is open to players who have not reached 17 years of age prior to midnight on the final day of the Championship.

The BC Juvenile Boys’ Championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition. There will be a cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.
