KEVIN KWON AND ALIX KONG WIN BC BANTAM TITLES

WESTBANK, B.C. (August 26) – Kevin Kwon of Coquitlam, B.C. and Alix Kong of West Vancouver B.C. claimed the boys’ and girls’ titles at the 2008 B.C. Bantam Championship held at Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy in Westbank, B.C.

Kwon started the round in a three way tie for second but quickly made a move to the top of the leaderboard after firing five birdies on the front nine for a 6-under 57 and a final 4-under 122.

Sunny Li of Surrey, B.C. held on for second at 2-under 124 while yesterday’s leader, Kevin Lee also of Surrey slipped to a third place finish at 2-under 124 by retrogression. Local hopeful, Brandon Ortiz of Westbank rounded out the top four in the boys’ championship at 5-over 131.

In the girls’ championship play, Kong started the day with birdies at holes one and two and posted the low tournament round for girls at 1-over 64 and a final 6-over 132.

Round one leader, Taylor Kim of Surrey, B.C. finished in second at 9-over 135 followed by Haley Kruse of Victoria, B.C. at 14-over 69 and Grace Chua of Surrey B.C. at 17-over 143.

The BC Bantam Championship is a 36-hole stroke play gross competition. The boys competed in the B.C. Boys’ Bantam Championship and the girls in the B.C. Girls’ Bantam Championship. Players must not have reached their 14th birthday by the final day of the championship.

The B.C. Girls’ and Boys’ Bantam Championship is one of 12 provincial championships conducted annually by the BCGA. A full listing of players, the leaderboard and post-round results can be found on the BCGA website at www.bcga.org.

 

KEVIN LEE AND TAYLOR KIM LEAD BC BANTAM BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

WESTBAANK, BC (August 25) – Kevin Lee of Surrey, B.C. fired a 1-under par 62 and takes the opening-round lead as the only player under par at the 2008 B.C. Bantam Boys’ Championship at Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy in Westbank, B.C.

Sunny Li of Surrey, B.C., Kevin Kwon of Coquitlam, B.C. and Brandon Ortiz of Westbank, B.C. hold a share of second place at 2-over par 65 followed by Mark Valliere of Nanaimo, B.C. at 5-over 68 for fifth and Tony Ko of Langley at 6-over 69 for sixth.

In the Bantam Girls’ Championship, Taylor Km of Surrey, B.C. is in first at 2-over par 65 while Alix Kong sits three strokes back for second place at 5-over par 68.

Sitting in third at 8-over par 71 is Haley Kruse of Victoria, B.C. one shot ahead of Jessica Claggett of Kelowna, B.C. at 9-over par 72 for fourth.

The BC Bantam Championship is a 36-hole stroke play gross competition. The boys are competing in the BC Boys Bantam Championship and the girls in the BC Girls’ Bantam Championship. Players must not have reached their 14th birthday by the final day of the championship.

The final round commences Tuesday August 25, 2008 at 10:00 am off the #1 tee.
